I've been involved more or less in martial arts since I was a boy, seeking a style that worked for me. I did a few years in both judo and karate-do, and dabbled in aikido and tai chi chuan when I was in college. I have to admit that as a boy, I wasn't very good or did I really care to be. I enjoyed doing it, but I wasn't very serious.
Along about graduate school, I decided I really wanted to do aikido, and since I was going to be living in Japan for a while (teaching English), I figured it was a good time to start. So a friend of mine introduced me to the Fukui Aikikai in Fukui Prefecture, under the direction, at that time, of Michio Hayashi-sensei and Tetsuo Kasashima-sensei. That was a more than a few years ago. They were very kind to me and I left as a newly-minted shodan (first degree black belt). After a few months in Hawaii at Wago Enten Dojo, I moved to Massachusetts, where I've continued practicing at the MIT Aikido Club (my main dojo) and the Harvard Aikikai.
I am currently a sandan or third degree black belt.
Daryl 's Blog
Welcome to my blog. After years of resisting the idea that I should write about myself, I realized that as I poet, I spend a great deal writing about myself. On this website, you'll find public information about me, my writing, and other relevant fun facts.

Tai Chi Chuan
So a couple of years ago, I started taking Yang-style tai chi chuan. I began, through the recommendation of a friend, at the Cambridge Center of Adult Education's Tai Chi Chuan for Beginners course instructed by Cho Li, which I enjoyed a lot. From there I joined Cho's class under the direction of his teacher (and now also mine), Tai-Chun Pan. The website for our class is here which includes our curriculum and lineage.
Poetry
I've tried to keep my publishing going over the years and a number of the poems I've been blessed enough to have been accepted have been put online or mentioned in those generous journal/review websites. For that I am grateful. I've collected a list of these and put them here. They are not a comprehensive list, as a few of my publication credits don't have websites, didn't include a table of contents for some issues, or have, unfortunately, closed.
I hope that you will visit these sites, maybe buy a copy of one of their issues, and help support new literature that appears both in paper and electronic forms.
